Neutrinos Through Design

Neutrinos – mass and mass

Weighty without weight: in Human Design, neutrinos form the ceaseless flow that connects all life with the cosmos.

A flow that never stops

Neutrinos are electrically neutral elementary particles. They are created inside the Sun and other stars, in powerful cosmic events and in Earth's atmosphere. Because they interact with other matter only extremely rarely, they pass through stars, planets, houses and bodies almost unhindered. What appears solid and impenetrable to us is nearly transparent to them.

From the Sun alone, approximately 60 to 65 billion neutrinos reach every square centimetre of Earth each second—about 400 billion per square inch. Many trillions pass through a human body every second, by day and by night, because they also pass through Earth itself.

For me, the essential point is not one particular number. It is the image of an ever-present event: we do not face the universe as sealed-off beings. We exist in the midst of an uninterrupted cosmic flow.

“Mass” – immeasurably light and immeasurably many

This is where the play on words begins—and where it also carries an essential meaning for me: mass in the sense of weight and mass in the sense of multitude. These two meanings bring together opposites that each reach the boundaries of what physics can measure and the mind can imagine.

A single neutrino has only a vanishingly small mass. It is not weightless, yet it is so immeasurably light that determining its absolute mass remains a frontier even for the most elaborate experiments. The individual particle lies close to the threshold at which something is physically present and yet can scarcely be grasped as weight.

At the same time, neutrinos meet us as immeasurably many: not as isolated particles, but in a multitude beyond all everyday imagination. Physics can determine local flows and orders of magnitude. Yet all the neutrinos continually streaming from the Sun, the stars and the cosmos through all matter can neither be counted in full nor inwardly imagined as a totality. Another boundary is touched here—not by the almost infinitely small, but by the almost infinitely many.

This connection is precisely what gives the neutrino stream such weight in Human Design: an individual particle is almost nothing; the totality is almost everywhere. Because these barely graspable particles pass through Earth, planets and living beings ceaselessly and in unimaginable numbers, they can form the great cosmic stream of information in this image. What appears insignificant acquires meaning through its abundance and movement.

This double “mass” is also, for me, an image of life itself. Not everything that sustains and affects us needs to be heavy, loud or visible. Something may lie at the boundary of our perception as an individual event and yet, in its totality, form the foundation of a larger connection.

The physical point

When Ra Uru Hu received the Human Design System in 1987, one of its transmitted foundations was the statement that neutrinos have a small mass. At that time, the Standard Model of particle physics still treated neutrinos as massless. In 2015, Takaaki Kajita and Arthur B. McDonald received the Nobel Prize for the discovery of neutrino oscillations, which show that neutrinos have mass. I find it remarkable that this confirmed precisely the property of the neutrino that is essential to the Human Design model.

Neutrinos as carriers of information

In Human Design, the neutrino stream is more than a vast number of invisible particles. It is the medium through which cosmic influences enter the world of form. According to this model, as neutrinos pass through stars, planets and living beings, they take on information and carry information onward.

They thereby connect the great with the small: movements in the solar system with an individual person, the cosmic moment with a particular body. The planets do not externally “make” our character. Rather, they represent different filtering qualities through which the neutrino stream passes and whose information it conveys at that moment.

The neutrino stream is therefore not a distant celestial phenomenon. It continually passes through every cell and every form. In the image offered by Human Design, there is no place outside this flow of information.

Earth and planets—not scenery, but cosmic filters

This makes it understandable to me why Earth holds such a weighty place in Human Design. In astrology it generally remains in the background as the observer's location; in the Human Design chart it stands explicitly opposite the Sun and on equal terms with it. Sun and Earth together form a central axis of every activation.

By day, solar neutrinos reach us by a direct path. At night, Earth stands between us and the Sun. Solar neutrinos are barely stopped by it; they pass through the entire planet before reaching us. From the Human Design perspective, Earth is therefore more than the ground beneath our feet. It is a powerful filter that gives its own information and colouring to the neutrinos passing through it. The image becomes especially vivid at night: the solar stream does not disappear; it reaches us through Earth in a quality partly imprinted by Earth.

The same image extends to the planets of our solar system. They do not stand in the sky like uninvolved markers. They too are permeated by neutrinos from the Sun and other stars; they receive these streams, colour or inform them with their particular quality, and pass them on in a transformed form. In this understanding, the neutrino stream that reaches us carries traces of the cosmic bodies it has crossed on its journey.

In this way, the ancient tradition of astrology also receives new physical momentum for me. Its observation that Sun, Earth, Moon and planets are associated with different qualities of effect gains a tangible medium in the neutrino stream: the heavenly bodies do not act upon us across an unbridgeable distance, but meet us through a real stream of particles that permeates them and us alike. Human Design translates the particular constellation of that stream into the activations of the BodyGraph.

The moment of birth and the individual design

A Human Design chart records two moments: the time of birth for the conscious Personality and a moment approximately 88 solar degrees earlier for the unconscious Design of the physical form. The positions of the Sun, Earth, Moon, lunar nodes and planets describe the cosmic filters through which the neutrino stream passes at these imprinting moments.

What appears in the chart as a gate activation is, in this model, the graphic trace of that imprint. Activations form channels, defined centres, Type, Strategy and Inner Authority. In this way, the neutrino stream becomes a fundamental basis of the whole system: it is the connecting medium between cosmic events and the individual BodyGraph.

The chart does not claim to contain the whole aliveness of a person within a drawing. It shows an underlying disposition—a mechanics that can be observed, experienced and examined in one's own life.

From cosmic imprint to centres, chakras and body

The millennia-old tradition of chakra teachings also fits into this image. Human Design takes it up and develops it into its system of nine centres. These centres are not separate containers, but interconnected switching and mediating points within an individual's life mechanics.

At birth, we take up our own space in this world. From the infinity of possible moments, places and cosmic constellations, this one moment becomes our personal point of reference. The neutrino stream meets this concrete form and, in the Human Design understanding, leaves an individual imprint—a filter from the infinite possibilities of experiencing life.

Gates, channels and centres are informed and switched according to the pattern of this imprint. Some centres thereby operate in a defined and comparatively consistent way; others remain open to changing influences and experiences. The cosmic stream of information thus does not become one general message for everyone, but is filtered through the individual disposition and experienced as a unique life mechanics.

Through the correspondence of the centres with the glandular system, organs and bodily regulatory processes, this information also acquires a biological expression in Human Design. The centres do not receive the imprint merely as a symbol: they mediate their individualised information through the body. The model thus connects the ancient chakra teaching, cosmic imprint and human biology in one continuous path—from the neutrino stream to lived experience in our own form.

The bloodstream of the universe

Blood connects the organs and cells of a body. It flows, supplies, receives, passes things on and reaches even the finest branches. No single drop of blood “is the body,” yet without the connection created by its circulation the body could not exist as a living whole.

In this sense, I see the neutrino stream as the bloodstream of the universe. Stars, planets and living beings are not isolated parts. They lie, as it were, within a cosmic circulation that flows through everything and places everything in relationship. In this image, neutrinos are not the universe itself, but the subtle, almost unhindered medium of its exchange.

This is why the image touches me more deeply than a merely technical explanation. The stream reminds us that life consists not only of separable things, but also of relationship, movement and exchange. What we perceive as separate may, at another level, have long been connected.

From “Neutrinos Through Windows” to “Neutrinos Through Design”

My Kabbalistic play on words “Neutrinos Through Windows” arose from this understanding in the early 1990s. From the beginning, the name opened two windows: neutrinos through the Windows program and neutrinos through the window of the universe. The program was intended not only to calculate charts, but to offer a view into the connections Human Design seeks to make visible.

As the classic Windows program developed into today's application, the name became “Neutrinos Through Design.” This name, too, contains a double movement: neutrinos flow through the individual Human Design, and Human Design becomes the window through which we regard that flow.

The name is therefore not an arbitrary technical brand. It is a homage to the mass of the almost massless particles, to the cosmic flow of information and to the bloodstream of the universe.

My perspective—and each person's own responsibility

I do not tell this story to place a scientific seal of approval on Human Design. Science can describe, measure and increasingly understand many things. Yet it still cannot conclusively explain where life itself comes from—and life is nevertheless unmistakably here.

For me, an experience does not first need mainstream confirmation before I may open myself to it and examine it in my life. Nor does Human Design require blind belief. It offers a perspective on life and an experiment with one's own Strategy and Inner Authority.

Every person is responsible for how they engage with life, with information and with this system. My task is to present my perspective honestly and to provide a tool in Neutrinos Through Design. Only your own life can answer what meaning any of it holds for you.

For anyone who would like to explore the few physical points behind the image in greater detail, these are two good starting points:
