Human Design Basics
Definition
Definition describes the reliable internal connection of a BodyGraph: which defined centers are connected to each other by complete channels and whether they form a single area or several separate areas.
What does definition mean?
Every person has a unique BodyGraph, which is calculated from the date of birth, exact time of birth and place of birth. The location is necessary in order to convert the local birth time into UTC via the historically correct time zone. For the definition, it is then considered which centers are permanently connected to one another through fully activated channels.
All centers that are connected via such channels form a definition area. If all defined centers are connected to one another, there is a single area. If defined centers are present, but not all of them are connected to one another, a division occurs. Depending on the BodyGraph, two, three or four separate areas can exist at the same time.
Definition does not describe quality in the sense of “better” or “worse”. It shows how the constantly available energy and information flow together within a person, where processing occurs on its own and where different inner areas do not communicate directly with one another.
Single Definition
With Single Definition, all defined centers form a single contiguous area. This can be done through one or more fully defined channels; What is crucial is that there is no interruption between the defined centers.
The energy can flow continuously within this area. People with Single Definition can therefore often go through their internal processing in a comparatively closed and independent manner. That doesn't mean that they don't need other people or that they generally need to live more independently. It simply describes that their defined internal circuitry does not require an external bridge for their connection.
Split Definition
With Split Definition, there are two separate definition areas. Each area is interconnected and reliable, but there is no complete connection between the two. A specific gate, multiple gates or a complete channel can temporarily bridge this gap.
This inner separation can be experienced as a desire for connection or for a removal of division. People or transits that activate the missing bridge can therefore have an immediately attractive, relieving or completing effect: Suddenly something seems to flow together that is only processed in separate areas.
In Neutrinos Through Design you can display the definition bridges.
However, this feeling does not mean that the person is actually missing something or that a particular person needs to create their own wholeness. Strong conditioning can occur, especially on a bridge. Strategy and inner authority therefore remain more important than the mental attempt to permanently close the division.
Triple Split Definition
A tripartite definition consists of three separate definition areas. In order for the energy to flow between all areas, several bridges would be required. While a single person can occasionally make these connections, a single solid bridge is not always the most coherent response to this more complex internal structure.
Different contacts, changing auras and movement through different environments often support processing. The desire to eliminate divisions can then be less directed at a single person, but rather show up as a need for diversity, movement and time. What is initially recorded separately is allowed to gradually settle and combine.
Quadruple Split Definition
With a fourfold definition, there are four separate definition areas. This rare configuration requires a large number of defined centers; often eight or all nine centers are defined without being connected to a single coherent network.
Several possible bridges and a complex processing rhythm characterize this design. The impulse to bring the separate areas together can be clear, but at the same time this complexity cannot be forced in a meaningful way. Decisions continue to require the process of one's own authority, while connection and integration occur at their own pace.
No definition
A design without definition has no fully defined channel and therefore no permanently defined center. This is the mechanical basis of the reflector. There is no division between fixed definition areas because such areas do not even exist.
Instead, the reflector temporarily absorbs definition from other people and through transits and reflects the quality of its surroundings. The lunar cycle serves as a strategy and time frame of reference for important decisions.
Bridging the Split
A division is not a defect, but rather part of the individual mechanics. Nevertheless, the very thing that bridges a separation can trigger a strong attraction. In the encounter, the previously interrupted flow of energy can be experienced temporarily; This can result in familiarity, relief and the feeling of being “complete” with the other person.
Human Design invites you to perceive this trait without confusing it with personal truth or necessary connection. A bridge can be beneficial and enrich relationships. But it can also become a place of non-self if the mind makes decisions out of the desire for wholeness or holds on to a connection.
The division does not have to be eliminated mentally. The experiment is about getting to know your own definition as well as its interruptions and allowing decisions to emerge from strategy and authority. In this way, connection can be experienced without making your own wholeness dependent on it.
